Siguiendo con la práctica de la semana pasada, todos los fines de semana iremos recogiendo en este blog artículos interesantes de la sección "El Viajero" del País Digital en los que se hable de cualquier rincón especial de la Península Ibérica; hoy toca un espacio natural con importantes acuíferos. Hoy recogemos el artículo de Noelia Román sobre las lagunas de la comarca de Terra Chá en Lugo.

Cuenta la leyenda que la laguna de Cospeito, uno de los humedales más singulares de la Terra Chá (Tierra Llana), en Lugo, no fue obra de la naturaleza, ni de la lluvia, ni siquiera de las meigas que habitan en su entorno, sino de la propia Virgen, que, llegada a la aldea de Valverde en busca de refugio y alimento, y rechazada por todos los lugareños excepto por uno, decidió, como castigo, enterrar el pueblo bajo las aguas que hoy son refugio para multitud de aves. Una pequeña iglesia erigida en su honor destaca sobre un promontorio a cuyos pies se extiende Feira do Monte, la capital administrativa del municipio de Cospeito. La iglesia y la laguna están hoy separadas por unos tres kilómetros y una panorámica deliciosa, que abarca desde la laguna hasta las lejanas montañas de sierra de Meira y el macizo de Monseibán, en invierno cubiertos por la nieve.
Recuperación de los humedales
Fuente de vida y de historias de tradición oral, el agua, los humedales, los ríos apenas encajados horadan la geografía de la Terra Chá, una vasta llanura -es la comarca más extensa de Galicia- delimitada por montañas. El Miño y sus afluentes recorren esta zona de impresionante planitud situada al norte de la ciudad de Lugo, y las autoridades miran hoy hacia las lagunas naturales, despreciadas en los años sesenta -muchas, entre ellas la de Cospeito, fueron desecadas con fines agrícolas- y ahora en fase de recuperación como parte de la Reserva de la Biosfera Terras do Miño y como gancho para un incipiente mercado turístico.
La Terra Chá esconde hipnóticos paisajes para los amantes de la naturaleza -existen dos Lugares de Interés Comunitario (LIC), Parga-Ladra-Támoga y Serra do Xistral- e interesantes propuestas para los que buscan, además, practicar algo de deporte lejos del turismo de masas.
La ruta que proponemos a continuación parte de Lugo -con sus murallas romanas del siglo III, su casco antiguo y sus poco conocidas termas-, y, en coche o en bicicleta, permite recorrer buena parte de la comarca teniendo como escala tres de sus humedales más ricos y fascinantes.
A unos 15 kilómetros de Lugo, entre Outeiro de Rey y Rábade, el viajero puede realizar su primera parada en las Insúas do Miño, esas pequeñas islas de frondosa vegetación que se forman en el curso del río más importante de Galicia. Sauces, alisos, abedules, robles y avellanos pueblan estos oasis vegetales, bautizados a menudo con nombres de santos: Santa Mariña, San Silvestre, San Roque, Do Curro, Trabanca... A la de San Roque se puede llegar a través de una antigua senda delimitada por chantos, ahora recuperada. No muy lejos de allí, en la confluencia de los ríos Parga y Ladra, surge el pozo do ollo, un lago de exuberante vegetación y elevados árboles, con espadañales y carrizales. El centro de interpretación de este LIC propone interesantes rutas, como las que recorren los viejos molinos de piedra o las que surcan, en batuxo -pequeña embarcación típica-, tramos del río.
Siguiendo el recorrido, a unos 30 kilómetros de la capital, se halla la laguna de Cospeito, probablemente el humedal mejor recuperado y mejor adaptado para los visitantes. Mitificada en sus orígenes, fuente de leyendas sobre pueblos anegados y espíritus que deambulan, despreciada y desecada después, la laguna de Cospeito se presenta hoy como el refugio ideal para un gran número de aves que llegan desde el norte de Europa y para aquellas que habitan durante todo el año y comparten armónicamente su espacio con los habitantes de la zona.
En los últimos años, esta área ha recuperado una parte de su morfología original y, además, se ha adaptado a los nuevos tiempos. Un sendero de unos cuatro kilómetros circunda la laguna y permite a paseantes y ciclistas -el acceso en coche está prohibido- contemplar desde muy cerca un espectáculo de flora y fauna. A lo largo del sendero existen cinco miradores que, construidos en madera y piedra, permiten hacer un alto en el camino y observar -se recomienda llevar prismáticos- especies limícolas como las avefrías, apenas presentes en el resto de Galicia pero habituales en las praderas colindantes, o el amenazado sisón. En invierno, hasta 1.500 aves acuáticas (patos azulones y culleretes, garzas y gallinas de río) se concentran aquí, lugar de paso de las migraciones en primavera y otoño.
Culebras y nutrias
En el acceso sur de la laguna existe también un centro de interpretación en el que Gustavo, su responsable, ofrece detalles sobre las aves, así como sobre los numerosos anfibios que habitan en los prados húmedos que la rodean, los reptiles (culebras de agua) y mamíferos (nutrias, erizos, corzos) que completan la fauna del lugar.
A través de los caminos, asfaltados o no, que rodean la laguna, el visitante puede llegar (a pie, en bici o en coche) a Feira do Monte, desde cuyo mirador -situado en lo alto del monte, al lado de la iglesia- contemplará una panorámica espectacular de la laguna y sus alrededores. Por la zona oeste del lago, un paseo bonito lleva hasta el caudaloso río Támoga, hace años zona de baño veraniego para los jóvenes del lugar. En sus inmediaciones, el Pazo de Sistallo, un antiguo molino de agua, y el robledal de San Paio -el segundo sábado de julio se celebra allí una popular romería- merecen una visita.
El último alto en el camino conduce hasta la Lagoa de Caque o de los Baluros (brujos), en el municipio de Castro de Rei. Pese a que es una de las lagunas mejor conservadas de la comarca y con una gran variedad de especies a lo largo de todo el año, el acceso es restringido. No existe ningún camino ni ruta que permita bordearla, pues se intenta preservarla de la acción del hombre.

- Pazo de Caldaloba. Antigua fortaleza situada en la parroquia de Pino (Cospeito).
- Pedregal de Irimia (Meira). Nacimiento del Miño y antigua morrena glaciar.
- Turberas de Xistral. Entre las más grandes de la Europa continental.
- Castro de Viladonga. Yacimiento arqueológico de un castro característico de la Terra Chá, situado al noreste de la comarca, cercano a la sierra de Meira.
- Cualquier feria popular, como la que cada miércoles se celebra en Castro Ribeiras de Lea, son un excelente lugar para degustar el típico polbo à feira (pulpo).
